Willow Suite PICU
The aim of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is to provide specialist assessment, support and recommendations on the management strategies for those patients who are seriously unwell.
The PICU Liaison service plays an active part in supporting to manage acutely disturbed patients within the acute wards by providing a proactive and immediate response during hours of service.
On admission to the Willow Suite PICU, a multidisciplinary assessment and treatment package will be provided. Care includes a high degree of monitoring and provision of consistent and appropriate medical, nursing and psychological interventions in a safe and secure environment. The care aims to reduce acute symptoms and help the patient to reach a desired goal using person centred care planning.
Protecting our patients
When visiting any of our inpatient wards you must wash your hands, follow our 2m social distancing policy and wear a face covering where required to do so.
Wards may insist upon other individual arrangements to help protect you during your visit. We advise for all visitors to contact the ward staff ahead of their visit to check for further guidance.

Arrangements for under 18’s to visit
Under 18’s are not allowed on the ward. If you have a child under the age of 18 who wishes to visit please speak to a member of ward staff who will arrange a family room to be booked for your visit.
Items not allowed on the ward:
Being a PICU we have strict regulations regarding what can and cannot be brought onto the ward for patients.
It is advised that if you are visiting a patient on the ward that you liaise with the nurse in charge prior to the visit regarding what can be brought in. Also it is advised that you declare all items that are being brought in for the patient to the nurse escorting you onto the ward.
