East Kent Neuropsychiatry Service

We are a tertiary neuropsychiatry outpatient service offering assessment and treatment to adults the Eastern and Coastal areas of Kent. KMPT does not have specialist neuropsychiatric inpatient beds.

We offer multidisciplinary (neuropsychiatry, clinical psychology, neuropsychology, nursing) assessment and treatment for adults aged 18+. Assessment and treatment is based on an individual’s needs and treatment plan, but may include drug therapy, short-term psychological therapy interventions and assessment of cognitive abilities. As a tertiary service, we care for individuals whose complex needs cannot be met within primary or secondary care services.

We care for complex psychological and psychiatric aspects of neurological disorders including:

  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Huntington's disease
  • Brain injury
  • Other neurological disorders.

We also care for individuals with neurologically confirmed functional neurological symptoms such as:

  • Non-epileptic seizures (sometimes referred to as dissociative or psychogenic seizures)
  • Functional movement disorders
  • Other functional symptoms.

We do not treat neurodevelopmental disorders.
