The Beacon celebrates Peer Support Week and Recovery College with promotional event
Date added: 06 July 2018
The event was held for staff who wanted to find out more information about Kent and Medway’s first Recovery and Wellbeing College, and the different roles and areas of work available when it is piloted in Thanet later this year.
The college will offer educational courses to support mental, physical and emotional wellbeing in the community, and provide opportunities for further study, training and help to get into employment.
Peer support workers and Recovery College Progressors, Julie Fuller and Will Cartwright were both shortlisted in this year’s KMPT Awards within the Healthcare Hero category for their work and passion in helping to shape and develop the college. The duo were part of the initial thoughts, ideas and hopes for the creation of the college and have used their own experience of accessing and working in services to create something that will help and support others going through and out of mental health services.
Pam Wooding, Recovery Practice Lead, who has helped to establish the Recovery College pilot said: “It was a great event; there was lots of interest from third sector organisations and staff from the trust’s community mental health teams. There were even cupcakes too!”
