KMPT Tarentfort Unit shortlisted for HSJ Patient Safety 2024 award!
Congratulations to General Manager, Shannon Paine and the multidisciplinary team at Tarentfort Unit in Dartford, for being shortlisted for the Mental Health Safety Improvement Award category.
Representing KMPT values, the team has been shortlisted for their brilliant, collaborative and innovative work to prevent sexual safety incidents within Tarentfort Unit, which is a low-secure, 20-bed unit for male patients with learning disabilities and autism.
Working with insights provided by Quality Improvement, the team implemented a new and effective strategy.
The team will find out if they have won at the HSJ Patient Safety Congress award ceremony in Manchester on Monday, 16 September. They are delighted their work has been recognised by such a prestigious awarding body.
Shannon Paine, General Manager at Tarentfort Centre said: “It was such a wonderful surprise to learn that we had been shortlisted in the Mental Health Safety Improvement category with so many other great nominations from teams all over the country!
“It feels particularly special to know that we have been recognised for the important work we have undertaken on sexual safety on one of our wards. This project has been a true multi-disciplinary team effort with continued input from nursing, management, medical and psychology colleagues throughout.
“We have worked closely with our patients and frontline ward staff to deliver interventions that are meaningful, innovative and most importantly safe. Our engagement with patients throughout this process has been in line with co-production principles, and we received valuable feedback on what they believe contributes to a sexually safe ward environment.
We remain committed to continuing the conversation around sexual safety and recognise that the work we have initiated is a collective responsibility. This work will continue in the long term to ensure that our improved practices become fully embedded."
