KMPT Social Worker, Nic Jones has been named a finalist at the Social Worker of the Year awards.

Those shortlisted are being recognised for their exceptional practice and will learn if they have won in their respective categories at a special event this November in London.

The finalists were chosen by panels of independent judges including previous award winners, social workers, industry leaders, and people with lived experience of social work.

Sharing why she was nominated for the award, Nigel Ashurst, Consultant Psychiatrist at KMPT said:

“Nic works as a social worker within the Rough Sleepers Initiative, which is a national pilot project that supports people who sleep rough or who are at risk of homelessness.

“Her dedication to her work sees her out on early morning outreach with partner organisations every week, identifying and building working relationships with people sleeping rough in Kent.”

“Amongst supporting the development of services in West Kent, building strong relationships with partner organisations such as TWBC and porchlight, Nic champions and challenges the systems and processes within KMPT that are not necessarily designed for people who struggle to engage.”

The Social Worker of the Year Awards is the only major national awards event for social work in England, attracting hundreds of entries every year.

Peter Hay CBE, Chair of the Social Work Awards, said: “This year we received hundreds of entries which goes to show how passionate organisations and individuals are to shine a light on the inspirational achievements of an often-overlooked profession.

“We would like to thank all those who took the time to nominate a friend, colleague, or team for an award this year. To our finalists, we’d like to say congratulations! Being nominated for a national award, whilst supporting others during very challenging times in a year of big changes, is a remarkable achievement of which you should be very proud.”
