HSJ award shortlisting recognises KMPT success
Date added: 13 August 2024
Congratulations to our chief medical officer, Dr Afifa Qazi and our chief pharmacist Jagdip Bahia and the pharmacy team on being shortlisted in this year’s HSJ awards.
Dr Afifa Qazi’s shortlisting for Clinical Leader of the Year is a fantastic achievement, as the category has historically been won by physical health clinicians. Her nomination recognises the important work she’s be been doing not only at KMPT, but also in wider mental health sector, and recognises the importance that mental health is increasingly being given by the health service as a whole.
Dr Afifa said that “It’s an honour to me nominated for this prestigious award. My nomination is a big achievement for mental health. It recognises the fantastic work that everyone at KMPT, and at other mental health providers across the UK, is doing to improve the lives of individuals, their carers and the communities they live in.”
Jag and his pharmacy team have been shortlisted in the Medicines, Pharmacy and Prescribing Initiative of the Year for his work on Consultant Connect. The project has allowed community teams from across KMPT to have real-time connections with consultations from a number of specialities.
This new approach means colleagues have been able to streamline the treatment of the physical health conditions, which can be prevalent among patients with serious mental health illnesses. This initiative has reduced unnecessary hospital transfers for mental health patients with physical health concerns, ensuring more efficient care delivery.

Dr Afifa and Jag will now be invited to present to a panel of HSJ award judges, before finding out if they have won at the award ceremony in November. We’d like to wish Dr Afifa, Jag and the pharmacy team the best of luck.
The HSJ Awards has been running for more than 40 years, and every year, NHS organisations use it as a key opportunity to invest in staff morale and retention, and to represent and spotlight their organisation’s foremost achievements.
This is the largest, most prestigious, and longest running awards programme in UK healthcare.
