Our Green Plan
The Green Plan is our commitment to minimising our environmental impact from our services and operations while promoting sustainable mental healthcare, enabling us to deliver excellent patient care now and in the future.
Green Plans are required under NHS planning guidance and standard contract. They also support sustainability requirements under the Social Value Act and Local authority contracts. It also reflects the need to support the transition to a circular economy, protect scarce natural resources, improve local air quality and the resilience of our estate, services and supplies, addressing social inequalities within our region and ethical sourcing of goods and services.
Developing a Green Plan will help KMPT as an organisation to:
- Improve the health of the local community
- Meet its legislative requirements
- Deliver on the NHS Long Term plan
- Achieve its financial goals.
To do this, we’re committed to:
- Reducing our overall Carbon Emissions by 80% by 2035
- Cut emissions associated to Trust transport (business mileage) by 25% in the next 3years
- Reducing overall Trust waste volumes by 5% every year
- Ensure all KMPT staff have access to the correct training and support necessary for them to be able to make the right sustainable choices
- Improving the well-being of our patients and staff through our green spaces project
